When one mentions the term lake, the next word that pops into our head and comes to the mind is Sukhna. Probably one of the most famous tourist attractions in Chandigarh, which considering the vast array of beautiful locations we have is no minor feat at all, the Sukhna Lake is situated in Sector 1 in Chandigarh. Its roots trace back to as old as 1958, where it was created by damming the Sukhna Choe, a stream that originates from the Shivalik Hills and flows occasionally. Its incredible beauty is not its only underlying feature. With a large number of eating joints, souvenir shops, games, amusement themed rides, boating rides, a jogging track, a CITCO cafeteria, and acres and acres of free space where people of all ages come to enjoy a breath of fresh air in the morning/evening walk, the Sukhna is pretty much the weekend retreat of a majority of couples, families, children and the aged living all across the city. Its close vicinity to some colleges makes it a site of constant get-togethers given the peace and quiet the place has to offer.

Situated next to the Dhanas village in Sector 38 which eventually led to the naming of the lake, the Dhanas Lake has plenty to offer. Though not as opulent in grandeur as the Sukhna, it is a full-fledged lake that has plenty to offer, with some of the perks not being prevalent in the other lakes in Chandigarh. Devoid of jogging tracks and various types of boating facilities, the Dhanas lake does have an astonishing view accompanied with peaceful surroundings, since it is located in a secluded area, away from the chaos and clamor of the city. Quite a sight for bird-lovers, it grants the perfect place where they can take good clicks of birds and flowers by the side of the lake.
