Chandigarh is justifiably famous as the exemplification of the modern Indian city – well-planned and designed. However, as with any other city, there are problems of crowding, noise, traffic, and pollution here too. Friends of mine who live in Chandigarh swear by the city but also need to escape it from time to time.

When I asked these friends what kind of escapes could be found for those wanting to get away from the city for the day, they gave me a plethora of options. Some of those were for picnic spots in and around the city, while others were serene and quiet getaways in the not-too-distant mountains. However, what really caught my attention was the mention of amusement and water parks.

While there aren’t any water or amusement parks located right within the city, there are a few exciting options nearby — one of the most popular being Fun City Chandigarh. At ShoutLo, we decided to explore these places and share everything you need to know.

Funcity Water Park in Chandigarh

This is the oldest amusement and water park to come up near Chandigarh and, therefore, is definitely one of the most popular getaway destinations for those looking for some fun and frolic. It was first opened up in 1995 as an amusement park with the water park, called Wunder Water, being added on a few years later. The water park stays closed during winters but once summers arrive, visitors from all over flock to it. Fun City is located in Panchkula, approximately 20 kilometers from Sector 17. The amusement park boasts of more than 20 hydraulic rides which are meant for everyone regardless of age. The water park has 17 water slides, an activity pool, six landing pools, and a wave pool. The 17 water slides come in different lengths and shapes. The ticket is Rs. 1090 per head abut you can avail a 10% discount if you buy through Shoutlo. For children below 3 feet in height and for people over the age of 65, Fun City offers free entry. The parks are open from 9.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Thunder Zone

The second amusement and water park to open near the city, Thunderzone Amusement & Water Park has been around since 2002. Tourists come not only from Mohali and Chandigarh but from all over Punjab to enjoy the wide range of rides and water-based fun available here. The park is located on the Mohali-Sirhind Road, close to Landran. The amusement park has 12 rides including the Columbus, the Octopus, the Swinging Chairs, the Striking Cars, and many others. The water park has a slide pool with four different slides, each starting from a height of 30 feet and meant for adults. It also has a wave pool that boasts of six different types of waves. There is a kiddie pool with four different slides, meant for – you guessed it – kiddies. The activity pool allows you to play all sorts of games, while the Hira Kari is another slide you should definitely check out. Aqua Village

The third and latest entrant on this list is Aqua Village located in Pinjore. This place, as the name suggests, is purely a water park, unlike the other two which are a combination of amusement and water parks. It has five distinct pools – two concentric pools that have slides, a family pool, a wave pool, and a kiddie pool. The facility claims that the water is kept clean using UV protection and automatic filters. The place is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and offers individual as well as package rates. On weekdays, adults have to pay package prices of Rs. 650, which increases to Rs. 750 on the weekends. Kids who are below four feet in height are charged Rs. 500 on weekdays and Rs. 600 on weekends. However, you can avail special discounts if you book through Shoutlo and get tickets starting from Rs. 440.
